Opportunities for criminal justice and law education in Las Vegas are varied. Las Vegas College offers certification programs in court reporting, homeland security, paralegal and criminal justice. The Community College of Southern Nevada has legal assistantship and criminal justice programs. The University of Nevada offers bachelor and master’s criminal justice degrees and also has a law school.
Las Vegas is poised for explosive job growth in many fields, including criminal justice and law. Through 2012, legal occupations overall are forecast to grow 49 percent, including increases of 61 percent for paralegals, 47 percent for lawyers and 56 percent for court reporters. Probation officers can expect a 46 percent growth in job opportunities. Protective services occupations overall are expected to increase by 47 percent, with growth of 50 percent for police and sheriff’s patrol officers, 52 percent for detectives and criminal investigators, 68 percent for private detectives and investigators, and 46 percent for security guards, correctional officers and jailers.
