The fine arts department at the University of Nevada offers undergraduate education in music, acting, musical theatre, dance and choreography. Musicians and actors who wish to study further can also do postgraduate work at UNLV. Dancers can move on to an apprentice position at the Nevada Ballet Theatre.
The labor market index for Las Vegas predicts that there will be over 850 job openings each year in the Arts, Entertainment and Sport sector through 2012. This is an exorbitant figure when compared to cities like Cleveland or Charlotte and represents a 47% increase, which is just over the projected change for all Las Vegas job sectors. Lots of people move to Las Vegas to take advantage of the industry that has grown up around tourism. It is worth mentioning, though, that most of these positions are short-term. On the other hand, the likelihood of Las Vegas closing up shop anytime soon is minimal, so when one position ends there's a lot of potential for finding further performing arts employment in the area.
